During the early days of my wardrobe styling business, a number of my clients would say things like, “I wish you could help my sister (or mother or friend), but she lives in Northern California (or another state).” These clients received a lot of value from the work we did together and wanted their friends and family members to experience similar results.
At the time, I would suggest that my client help her loved one to find a stylist in their local area, all the while wishing I could be the one to help the person. Well, now I am pleased to say that I can help clients all over the country – or even in other parts of the world! I now offer several online personal styling services to assist men and women with their wardrobe and style from the comfort of their own home.
The Options Run the Gamut…
The options for virtual styling run the gamut… For those who are less well-versed in the technical realm, we stick to email and telephone. The client emails some photos to me of their clothing and outfits and I provide feedback on figure flattery and styling suggestions.
Those who are more comfortable with technology can use Skype for a virtual consultation that’s the next best thing to being there! You can show me items from your closet, try on garments for my review, and I can help you style some of your tricky wardrobe pieces. I can also shop virtually for clothes to enhance your image and round out your wardrobe.
Virtual Services Overview
The following is an overview of the online personal styling services I offer. For more information, please visit my services page or contact me for more information. If you don’t see the precise service that meets your needs, we can definitely create a customized plan for upgrading your style virtually.
- Virtual Style Analysis – Learn which colors, styles, and silhouettes best suit your body, as well as how to highlight your best features and downplay your less favored areas. We also review some of your outfits and I show you how to re-style them to present your desired image.
- Virtual Closet Audit – Key wardrobe pieces are reviewed in “real time” or via a document sharing site (e.g. Dropbox or Flickr). We look at color, style, fit, and fabric and how the garments work with the client’s body, lifestyle, and personality. We decide what stays and what goes, create some fun new outfit combinations, and compile a shopping list to fill in any wardrobe gaps.
- Virtual Personal Shopping – Based upon a client’s unique clothing needs and defined budget, I shop her favorite online stores and compile a list of links for items to round out her wardrobe. I also make styling suggestions for the suggested garments and review purchases and outfit options during a post-purchase phone/Skype consultation.
Virtual Styling for San Diego Clients?
It’s important to point out that San Diego residents can also benefit from my virtual wardrobe styling services. This option may be especially useful for those who are on a tighter budget or who have a very busy schedule with only a few short windows of time available to work with a stylist. In addition, some people may feel uncomfortable inviting a stylist into their home, or they may wish to “test the waters” by starting with an hour or two of virtual styling.
For some San Diego clients, a combination of in-person and virtual styling services may best meet their needs. One common option would be to have an in-person closet audit followed by virtual personal shopping. During the closet audit, we would compile a list of key garments to buy to fill in the gaps in the client’s wardrobe, and then I would browse through the various online stores to find the best options. A comprehensive list of links would be emailed to the client so that she could order her preferences as desired or visit the “brick and mortar” stores in person to try on the selected garments.
If this article has piqued your interest, stay tuned… I will soon be posting case studies for how I’ve successfully worked with clients using the virtual wardrobe styling model. In the meantime, if you have any questions, or if you’d like to learn more about online personal styling, please contact me.
